Land Management

Reforestation

The establishment of a timber stand, with the proper species and spacing for the site, is the first step in the value growth process. We handle the reforestation process from start to finish; beginning with recommendations regarding the appropriate species and site preparation method for each site. Most of our site preparation is via herbicide, but we still utilize mechanical methods where warranted. Our reforestation business has grown with the growth of our business generally; as more timber sales generate more reforestation. As time and resources permit, we handle some reforestation projects for non long term management clients as well. We currently plant over 1,500 acres per year, with about 40% of that being longleaf pine. Longleaf reforestation and management has become somewhat of a niche specialty for us. Longleaf is becoming increasingly popular with landowners for straw production, wildlife management and aesthetic reasons.

Roads & Drainage

Good roads and drainage are reflected in land and timber values by improving access and increasing logging opportunity windows. We are experienced in recognizing and implementing the most cost effective methods for achieving good road and drainage systems. We are able to maintain these systems through road and ditch side herbicide applications.

Invasive Species

We saw a niche when we were unable to find anyone to treat kudzu, wisteria and other invasive species on our clients' land. We have filled that need and have expanded to also treating invasives for non long term management clients as time permits. Control of these problem species is difficult, and usually requires multi-year applications. Proper herbicide prescriptions and application volumes are necessary to achieve results.
