Dargan, King and Knight, LLC

The three members of Dargan, King & Knight, LLC have over 100 years of combined forest and land management experience. Timothy G. (Tim) Dargan has a forestry degree from the University of the South (Sewanee). Charles F. (Charlie) King has an associate forestry degree from Horry Georgetown Technical College; and Tracy A. Knight has a forestry degree from Clemson University. Tim and Charlie have been together since 1983, and Tracy joined the firm in 1988. During our long tenure, we have adapted to many changes within the forestry and forest products industry communities, and have consistently added value to our client’s land and timber through enhanced forest productivity and marketing expertise. We provide traditional timber management services, from reforestation to timber sales; and land management services, such as road and ditch building/maintenance and herbicide application. We handle non timber revenue sources including pine straw sales, and recreational, agricultural and solar power leases. Our environmental services include prescribed burning and other wildlife management practices; endangered species studies/management; and the implementation of conservation easements. The establishment and maintenance of the longleaf ecosystem has become a niche specialty on Brookgreen Gardens, Hasty Point Plantation and other properties. We have been involved with carbon sequestration projects, and are currently very involved in forest certification. DKK offers land sale, acquisition and property division services, as well as timber appraisals. We are well versed in taxation issues related to timber and land, including the tax benefits associated with conservation easements. We have served as expert witnesses in court on several occasions.

While we do some of everything, and take lead roles on the respective properties we have under management; we each have our areas of specialization. Tim is a real estate broker, and handles land transactions and divisions. He also takes the lead with regard to tax issues, conservation easements and forest certification; and serves as the expert witness on behalf of the firm on most occasions. In addition to being an SC Licensed Real Estate Broker, he is an SC Registered Forester, a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager, and a member of the Association of Consulting Foresters. Charlie handles reforestation, drainage and road construction. Tracy takes the lead on timber inventories and appraisals, and on timber sale administration. Charlie and Tracy are both SC Certified Prescribed Fire Managers and South and North Carolina Licensed Commercial Chemical Applicators. As such they handle herbicide applications. Tracy is a Licensed Registered Forester in South and North Carolina, and a member of the Association of Consulting Foresters.
